Does MS have any methods of getting rid of this malicious piece of software? I have tried to get rid of it with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but the virus stops these programs from starting up. Please help and quickly!!! I have the same problem. My son thought xp smart security was real and I'm not sure which of these answers works best or in what order I should try them. Please help? Will I have to re-format the hard drive? Will I need to reinstall windows? Not sure where to begin.

No NEED to format or reinstall Windows. Try to run your PC in safemode with networking: 1)restart your PC and press F8 key continuesly before Windows logo come u[ 2)chose safemode with networking 3)the use internet explorer to log on to: XP: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm Vista/Win7: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and run full scan make sure you allow pop up blocker and Active X, if they block it. It should remove threat, also you could run full scan with Window Defender to remove it in safemode. If that NOT resolved the problem then contact support.
