xp and vista having trouble networking each other
I have been trying to networking xp sp3 32 bit and vista ultimate sp1 64 bit. On the vista side, I can see my xp computer but cannot access it. The following message displayed when I try to access my xp computer from my vista computer. "Windows cannot access \\HUBERT-LAPTOP" If I try to access my vista from my xp computer, then it will show me the following message. "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available" Note that my xp sp3 does have the LLTD installed. I will be appreciated if anyone is able to solve my problem. Thank you very much!

Are you sure LLTD is installed? Check internet properties to make sure. Also, can you see the Vista computer in the Workgroup or does it give you the error when you try to access the error?Lastly, try mapping your Vista public folder from XP. So map the network drive manually as: \\HUBERT-LAPTOP\Public\

Hi, Thank you for your posts. Please also try the following to narrow down the issue: 1. Ensure that the computers are in the same Workgroup. 2. Check the sharing on the shares and ensure that you have assigned Full-Control permissions to Everyone on both Sharing and Security tabs of their properties. Then try to access the Windows XP computer and check how it works. 3. Disable simple file sharing on Windows XP computers How to disable simple file sharing and how to set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874 4. Please turn off the Password Protected Sharing in the Network and sharing center of the Windows Vista computer. 5. Just for a test, please also try to disable the Windows XP and Windows Vista shares and reconfigure the shares referring to the following document: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx Hope this helps.
