xTerm vs Remote Desktop
Why is it that I cannot connect my Win 7 Home Premium PC to my Win 7 Ultimate PC using remote desktop? I could xTerm while blindfolded 20 yeras ago, but after several months of efforts and research, I CANNOT get Win 7 remote desktop to work. I've reached a point of exasperation - it just DOESN"T need to be so hard, nor does it need to be such an exclusive feature. It ought to be uttely common. And, yes, I have gone through all the help topics I can find, and the best I got was "contact your systems administrator" - for my home network. Soes that make sense?? hey - how hard does it have to be? Can someone - anyone - just give me a checklist of settings, 1, 2, 3, and so on, that makes it possible for this feature to work?

Hi, have you enabled Remote Desktop in system settings? Have you forwarded port 3389. Have you allowed port 3389 in your firewall? Remote Desktop is not included in Windows 7 Home Premium. You can also try logmein... www.logmein.com

You're not able to remote into your Home Premium desktop because that feature is not enabled in Windows. Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) decided to use a Tier Pricing approach. And the lowest Tier that allows Remote Desktop is Business. Going the other way, some things to check: 1. Are they in the same workgroup? 2. Are their IP Addresses in the same range (192.168.2.x for example)? 3. Is Remote Desktop enabled, and what users are allowed to connect via it? 4. What errors are you getting when you try it? I mean are you getting a certificate error, or just the cannot connect errors? Also, it should be noted that you're posting this to the forums for Windows Home Server. So unless you're trying to connect though your WHS box, you may need to find the forums for Windows 7. Have a great day:) Patrick. -- Smile... Someone out there cares deeply for you.
