x32 apps not working in win7 x64
Without notice my x32 apps were no longer able to access the internet on my win7 x64 machine. The applications will load but will not download mail, get virus updates etc. x32 explorer will not work as well. I have tried every concievable fix I can find on the web and nothing is working. All of these applications have previously been working since Jan 2010. I tried restoring to as many dates a I could and still no fix. I have tried MSFixIt and numerous other suggestions on blogs, MS websites etc. I have two other laptops that use Vista/Win Xp and both have no problem accessing the net...so this problem is isolated to the win7 machine and does not involve the router or modem. HELP!!!!!!!!

I should add that I have checked for file corruption - nothing wrong; uninstalled all windows updates since this error occured on May 27th; disabled Internet explorer 8 then restored it ; all network support programs report no network errors. Outlook 2007 will send but will not receive... I am so close to a reinstall that it makes me sick...help PLEASE!!!

Hi, When did the issue begin to occur? Is there any error message when accessing Internet via the applications? To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you perform the following steps. 1. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and launch the application to access Internet for a test. 2. Uninstall the 32bit Internet Explorer and install the 64bit one. Does the issue persist? 3. Run System File Checker (SFC) to verify whether any system file is corrupted. If the issue persists, you may need perform an In-Place Upgrade to repair the system. Thanks, Novak

Interestingly enough I tried SFC numerous times and never found any errors. I then decided to investigate the last time I was able to get mail and discoverd May 27th is when the problem started. I then proceeded to uninstall all Windows Updates that were installed automatically since that date. I then reset winsock <netsh winsock reset> in a command window....and restarted my PC. It worked I couldnt believe it. I got so excited I forgot to log the outcome here. This was a few days ago. Then suddenly when starting up Outlook 2007 it would not stay open it would report an error then close. I found a solution to that command line: outlook.exe / resetnavpane - this resolved the problem. Next I thought I woudl fix some issues I was having with my sound card. My ASUS Extreme Rampage II came with a built in Creative X-FI and I also had installed the Creative Elite Pro with external console. I removed the stock Creative X-FI card and then proceeded to down load the updated drivers for the Creative Elite Pro...then wouldnt you know it the old issue of not being able to access email or the internet with explorer x32 was back. Now I am really stuck because I have tried all the previous efforts, including uninstalling the update drivers for the Elite Pro. I have not reinstalled any of the window updates (took it off auto update). I am not a techi but I am guessing the conflict resides some where is the sharing of resources in the system? I couldnt find a way to uninstall explorer 32 so I turned explorer off - which turns off both versions - then turned it back on....no change. Not sure what to try now...
