would like to upgrade windows xp pro to windows 7 'enterprise'.
I run Windows XP Pro on my 32bit home PC. My employer make available for downloading an ISO file which I believe can be used to give us Windows 7 'Enterprise'. I think I want to upgrade my home PC from XP Pro to Windows 7, but I'm finding all of this kind of complex so I thought I'd post this question to this forum. I have run the upgrade advisor program and things look good also I downloaded a program which supposedly transfers easily files elsewhere prior to upgrading and here things have gone slightly awry - it tells me that I am using a temporary profile and to reboot before resuming BUT I seem to repeatedly get that message each time following a reboot.

"I run Windows XP Pro on my 32bit home PC. My employer make available for downloading an ISO file which I believe can be used to give us Windows 7 'Enterprise'." I am not the CIO of the company your work for, but something about using a business licencse for a personal home system doesn't sound legit. "I downloaded a program which supposedly transfers easily files elsewhere prior to upgrading and here things have gone slightly awry" Okay, what's the name of the program?

"I am not the CIO of the company you work for, but something about using a business licencse for a personal home system doesn't sound legit" I believe there's a non-issue there when the system is used for business purposes as I think I read. "Okay, what's the name of the program?" How about 'Windows Easy Transfer For Windows 7'? Sound famililar to you?

I don't use Windows Easy Transfer, but perhaps this will help: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/c7ce17c4-0464-4d95-868c-7d0a5fa8e3a5

Thanks (at least that's a 'start' to penetrate this mis-named 'easy transfer' utility), but I'm not an 'IT' person. Just a 'humble' user trying to do a 'clean install' on my XP Pro equipped 32bit PC. Can't someone just give me a set of simple instructions to follow?

Ah yes, I suppose if the system is used partially for business purposes that licensing wouldn't be a problem. " trying to do a 'clean install' on my XP Pro equipped 32bit PC" If you're going to do a clean install just backup all your profile settings and the rest of the personal data or use the Windows Easy Transfer tool and partition the amount of space for the Windows 7 install and install and you're off. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/transfer-files-and-settings-from-another-computer

Well the easiest thing is: plugin some backup media (external hard disk or something) copy all the files you don't want lost to that media. Remove the media Reboot your pc starting with the w7 dvd. Use the wizzard to remove everything from your pc & install w7. Insert the media & copy all your files back to your computer.Don't forget about Alt+Esc!
