wireless connection problems
Hey, i have a problem with my internet connection to my desktop computer. A few months ago, I had to swipe the hard drive and replace the motherboard. Before that i could connect it to (and use the internet) a Netgear GD834G wireless router downstairs. Now, however, i can connect to the router easily, with maximum signal strength despite thecomputer being two floors above, but i cannot get any internet connection whatsoever, and i think the IP is conflicting. there are two other laptops connected to the network, one wired and one wireless, both through the router. But this has always been the case even before i had to replace the motherboard. However, if i use a lan cable to connect it to the router then i can connect to the internet, so my internet browser is fine. Please help

What makes you think an IP is conflicting? Can you log into the router? If you go into network and sharing center is there a red X between your router and the internet? Click on it and it should tell you what is wrong.

well, i have a LAN connection, which as i have no lan cable plugged in at the moment is disabled and has the red X that youexplainedbefore. But the wireless connection between my computer and the router is fine, it has maximum connectivity and it accepted the WEP key you have to insert when attemting connection. the actual connection is fine, im on the network, i just cannot connect to the internet or anything else on the network. i checked in the properties folders and i dont seem to have any certificates at all.um, i tried to ping my IP originally, from the command script, and there wasnt one. But after attempting to make the connection with the router and it said that i could not identify an IP. im not sure what you mean by logging on to the router, but i have full connection, jsut no rights to anything that a normal connection should allow, like conecting to the interent mainly :sbut its definately not my web browser as i can connect using a lan cable even to the router, and its not necassarily the router bandwidth capacity, because it originally had mutliple computers (and still does) connected to it, wired and wirelessely...thank you,

Have you ever configured your router before? You enter the router's IP address (your gateway IP) into your web browser and it asks you to log in, and you can configure the router from within. If you can't even get the login for the router you definitely are not connecting to your router at all. Could you also try disabling IPv6 to see if that helps?

Network icon behavior in the tray is different in Windows 7. You will have to open the Control Panel and get to your network settings that way. -Nick
