windows xp randomly restarts....no error message, just does a normal restart.  Will happen whether or not I'm on the web, or just have the computer on.

Thank you for the additional information. Since the "automatically restart" box isn't checked, start your troubleshooting: 1. Does the same problem happen in Safe Mode? If not, do clean-boot troubleshooting to see if something running in the background is causing the issue. Clean boot in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Clean-boot advanced troubleshooting in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434 2. If the same problem occurs in Safe Mode, you may have a hardware problem. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).
