With XP you can do a repair install from the original XP CD. That will reinstall the OS files but leave your other files and settings intact.Bill

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you only need In-place Upgrade. To do so, in the system, launch the installation file of your system, and choose upgrade. After In-place Upgrade, system files are repaired and other thing should not be affected. Otherwise, please note that this is a Windows 7 forum. If you have questions regarding Windows Vista and Windows XP, please discuss in the correct forum. Windows Client ForumsArthur Xie - MSFT
