windows vista firewall udp port 33434 traceroute
Hello. I can't make traceroute from router to vista when the windows firewall is turned on. I examined all packets I received with disabled firewall and created necessary rules: 1) inbound UDP local ports 33434, 33435 (for first two traceroute steps) local IP addresses range - allow; 2) (probably unnecessary) outbound ICMP type 3 code 3 local IP range - allow. Traceroute don't work. Step by step I changed that rules till unusable condition: 1) UDP all ports from all destinations; 2) all ICMP to/from all destinations, but even at this point traceroute don't work. I examined pfirewall.log. Simple ping works ok and there is information in log file about allowed ICMP packets, but nothing about traceroute packets. Only turned off firewall made possible traceroute. This particular question isn't very necessary for me, because traceroute from one broadcast domain, but in general: is it firewall bug or probably I don't know windows firewall nuances? Dmitrijs
