windows update does not install ...
Hi, windows (update) does not install Spyware removal (KB890830) every month, silverlight updates and some updates of other applications like the last dropbox update. I download these updates from the site, drag them to the temp folder and install from there.
That works. Other (Windows) updates do install fine. But it is a monthly annoying thing so if anyone can help ... that would be great.
Thanks Stekel

Hello,
proceed like that:
Disable all security softwares Run chkdsk /r /g and sfc /scannow Download and install System Update Readiness tool for Windows 7 Reset Windows update Components
Once done, check again.
If this does not help, perform a repair install of your OS.

Hi MR X
I tried that.
chkdsk /g gave: invalid parameter.
sfc
/scannow: no problem.
I installed System Update Readiness tool for Windows 7
This did not solve the problem yet.
Now I have to Reset Windows update Components. How do I do this?
Thanks, Stekel

Hi,
Did you get any error message when you failed to install these updates?
As an alternative, please kindly try the methods in the following article:
You cannot install some updates or programs
Hope it helps.

Hi,
The codes are 1 and 656.
I tried the light version and that didnt help. Ill try the aggressive fix later today.
Thanks, Stekel

Hi everybody
Thanks so far. The agressive fix seems to work. Updates Spyware removal (KB890830) and silverlight are now installed!
However this new update is not installed: KB2478663:
Security update voor Microsoft .NET Framework 4 op Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7 en Windows Server 2008 x86
Error code 1: unknown
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Stekel

Hi,
I suggest you install the standalone package to see the result:
Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 4
If this issue persists, try to download the .NET Framework 4 package, then check the how it works:
Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer)

Check the Event Log to see if they are indeed installed, what Windows update shows is not always the same thing as was installed.
On
Vista I can check the Application Log and filter on:
Level: Information
Source: MsiInstaller
EventID: 1022
That should show all successful installation/updates.
If your updates are found in there
then it's safe to hide them in Windows Update.
Because I found the information above in the Event Log I hide these updates
in “Windows Update” by clicking with the right button and hide...

Thanks
I tried to find this. I use Windows 7. I didnt find "Application log". I found history in Windows update and installed updates in the control panel.
I guess thats not the same?
