i av win 7 home,i get windows security service is turned off,after reading the forum,i followed the instruction,set it to automatic,when i want to turn it on at the security center,it brings the message again,autumatically disabling it self.i am using Microsoft security essentials,i av read many post but none is addressing the problem.please help..............

Go to the processes screen - and check for the filename "msseces.exe". If you can see it there it is definitely running on your system. It runs in the background using the -hide parameter which you can see on the command line there too. Also you'll need to apply any updated definitions for it you receive using 'Windows Update' as well. Regards, pkn2011 (Note: In Windows Vista look for the file "MSASCui.exe" instead)

Have you run a full virus scan with your MSE ? See if it catches anything. Recommend that you install Malwarebytes and run it. It is one of the best in the business. http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free *** Pick the free version. After it is installed, it should prompt you to update. It it does not, click Update button > after update is done, click Scanner button > click Perform full scan > wait. It will give you a summarized report at the end. If it solves your problem, I did it. If it does not, my twin brother did it.

I notice with Win7 you get a context menu (right click on a file) that lets you "Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials". Works good and opens the program's UI on your desktop. Excellent! 8-) So then you can update definitions - run a full/partial disk scan from there.. pkn2011 (Vista note: I don't have this there, I usually wait for the Defender Icon to appear in my systray. I tried dropping a shortcut for MSASCui.exe (the MSE(defender) user interface located at "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender") into the "Send To" path just then. But right clicking a file and using 'Send To > Scan with Defender' (the name I gave the shortcut) only opened up the User interface. It didn't scan the file (a text..) But that's a step forward at least though I guess.. Regards, pkn2011

Hi kowokowo, I could not see we have Windows security services from Services.msc, do you mean MSIT TPM Security Service? Such issue may occur due to conflict with third party software.
