windows firewall protected network connections re-enable themselves
I'm having an issue here at work that I'm hoping someone can help with. We have several Motorola PDTs that we connect to a Windows 7 workstation in order to sync data, and while I won't go into too much detail, suffice it to say that I can't get them
to sync with the program we're using without turning off the firewall for that connection (we use Windows Mobile Device Center, which by default creates a new network connection for each device connected). So, for example, I have one of the terminals
connected to the computer, which gives me 2 network connections. I go into the firewall with advanced security, and go to Properties and then Customize next to Protected Network Connections where I uncheck the connection for the PDT. After that,
everything works great. Until I unplug the PDT and plug it back in. Then the firewall is protecting the connection again. The computer hasn't assigned a new connection to it, it's still using the same number, it just won't remember that I
told it to not protect it. This computer is in a domain, so I removed it from the domain to see if group policy was an issue, but I had the same thing happen.
Is this normal for the firewall to reset its protected connections when those connections change? And if it's normal, is there a way to keep it from happening for specific connections?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Can you please post a screenshot of this? I'm not certain about it's navigation in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. I will then assist you further, thanks!Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast |
