windows defender does not appear in the start menu anywhere, I had to locate it on the hard disc and pin it to the start menu, is this just a problem with my machine or does anyone else have similar problem?

Hi nosmadaWindows Defender is accessed through the applet in Control Panel. You can right click Windows Defender in Control Panel and create a shortcut which will place it on the Desktop. You can then drag the Windows Defender and drop it on the Start Button to pin it to the Start Menu. You can also drag the shortcut to the Start Button, wait for the Start Menu to display, hover it over All Programs and drop it into the All Programs menu.If you start Windows Defender, you will see the icon on the Taskbar. Right click that icon and select the Pin to Taskbar option to place it on the Taskbar.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

When i right click windows defender in control panel and create a short cut all works well, i then drag and drop the icon into the start menu which is what i want, and again all is well. I then delete the unwanted shortcut from my desktop, but when i go to open windows defender via the start button i get a dialog box which says. The item you selected is unavailabel it might have been moved, renamed, or removed. do you want to remove it from the list. Many thanks.

Hi,Even worse, it stilldoes not include the very useful Software Explorer which allows you to maually edit the startup items. Andy Song, a Msft moderator indicated that:"The Software Explorer feature of Windows Defender is not available in Windows 7 Beta and you could disable the startup items in msconfig settings".As I said in my previous post, this a a HUGE step backwards if you have to use a run command line itemto edit starup items. It looks likeSoftware Explorer isnot coming back either. Too bad.
