windows audio service
Yesterday my audio stopped working.  I replaced speakers but problem persists.  Icon of speaker on bottom has an x.  Error message is that Windows Audio Service is not enabled....it then asks if I wish it to be enabled.  I respond yes...but nothing occurs.  It also suggests that device for playback or audio isn't installed....not sure how all this came about, nor what to do.

Method 1:

Run Audio troubleshooter

Press Win + S keys and in the Search box type in Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound Click Playing Audio.

Method 2:

Check  Windows Audio Service is running. Check the services manually.

I suggest that you check if the dependency services are started and check if you have the same issue.

a. Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box.

b. Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start.

c.  Select Properties for Windows Audio and set its Startup Type to Automatic.

Method 3:
If the dependency services are not starting, you can uninstall and reinstall the Audio drivers.

Hello,

According to the symptom you described, here are some suggestion for your reference:

1. Uninstall the audio driver in device manager and install the latest version.

2. Check the Event log and check the detailed error message about why the Windows Audio Service cannot be manually enabled.
