Uhh the most obvious reason is that the hardware is just not good enough... Not enough RAM or CPU not fast enough, or it could just be your hard drive clogged with stuff and fragmented all over the it. I suggest doing a Disk Cleanup first followed by a Defrag. For the clean up go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup Unless you know there's something you need/want in the temporary files folder it's best to clear that since that junk just wastes space, compressing old files might have a bad effect because it might compress either something you use once in a while or mistakenly compress something that you use alot which will slow that down, happened to me before. For the defrag go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter Also you could have alot of programs trying to boot at startup which can slow you down greatly but I can't remember how to stop some unwanted things from starting up.
