windows 7 update error codes
Windows Update error 80246007. As well as windows update error code 646. I am running windows 7. This is a brand new laptop and i cant get all the updates to install due to these codes. I checked the BITS service which was ok still set at default. Been across microsoft sites and forums. The only fix I keep finding is to check the BITS which is ok.

Add to above suggestions, some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend temporarily disabling or shutting them down and then try accessing Windows Update later. Please understand that disabling these programs only for the purpose of troubleshooting and you can re-enable these programs after finishing troubleshooting. Also, you can test if the issue occurs in Clean Boot mode disables all startup items and third party services when booting. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. Regards, Linda
