windows 7 pro keep restarting on itself (will not last longer than 2 minutes) but safemode works
Hi, Windows 7 just acting strange for me in the last couple of days because it keep on restarting it self. Windows would boot up normally and got to the login screen , and I can login and everything but it will only last for a minute or two and it restart on its own with no message or warning or anything like that. Or, i would let it sit at the login screen and it would restart on it self to. so wether i login or not it just keep on restarting. However i am able to use the computer in safe mode. I don't want to wipe the disk to install new windows but I just want to fix this. I have 3 pieces of ram and i tested plug in one at a time, but that didn't help. Can you help? PS: As i login to safemode I got a message that say "Windows has recovered from and unexpected shutdown" and the error code was 4015 or something like that. I am not with the computer right now so i am not too sure.

Follow the below methods to fix the issue: Method 1: Run a complete system virus scan and malware scan to check for any viruses or malware causing this behavior. Do a complete system scan with Windows Malicious Software Removal tool and check for any malicious software present in your PC. Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to help remove specific prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows 2000. After you download the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, the tool runs one time to check your computer for infection by specific prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any infection it finds. Microsoft releases a new version of the tool every month. Refer the below link for more details: The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove specific, prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows 2000http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830 Also, you may refer the thread “How to get rid of malware” by MVP by Vincenzo Di Russo: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4d71-960f-b561798b7b42 Also, you may do an online scan of your computer from the below site: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-au/default.htm?mkt=en-au Method 2: In addition to the above steps, you may also do a System File Checker (SFC) scan on your computer. SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions. To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue 3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow Check the below link for details: How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Method 3: You can solve some computer problems by checking a drive or drives for errors. For example, you can check your computer's primary hard disk to fix some performance issues, or you can check an external hard drive if it's not working properly. Follow the below steps: 1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer. 2. Right-click the drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select Automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will report problems but not fix them. To perform a thorough check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the drive itself, and it can take much longer to complete. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. 4. Click Start. Refer the below link for more details: Check a drive for errorshttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors Method 4: The issue may be related to drivers. You may have to download install the latest display and graphics drivers to fix the issue. To download and update driver, you can use the following methods: 1. Use Windows Update. You might need to set Windows Update to automatically download and install recommended updates. 2. Install software from the device manufacturer. For example, if your device came with a disc, that disc might contain software that installs a driver for the device. 3. Download and update the driver yourself. Use this method to install a driver that you download from the manufacturer's website. Do this if Windows Update can't find a driver for your device and the device didn't come with software that installs a driver. Refer the below link for more details on the same: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properlyhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly If Windows can't find a driver for your device, and the device didn't come with driver software, you can look for a driver on the device manufacturer's website. Driver updates are often available in the support section of such sites. Once you find the updated driver, follow the installation instructions on the website. Most drivers are self-installing—after you download them, you usually just double-click the file to begin the installation, and then the driver installs itself on your computer. Refer the manufacturer’s website for latest drivers. Method 5: Also, boot into safe mode and check if the issue exists. To boot into safe mode, follow the below steps: 1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer. Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.2. Do one of the following: • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.• If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8. 3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press ENTER. For more information about options, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).4. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights. When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of the display. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally. Refer the below link for more details: Start your computer in safe modehttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode If the issue does not occur in safe mode, it indicates that one of the services or startup items may be corrupted and maybe causing the issue. To troubleshoot the issue, you may have to put your system in clean boot. Check the below link for more details on clean boot:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual: 1. Click Start button, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click RestartMCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi TuBong, To solid troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump and analyze the related source code if needed. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. I'd like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers. In the meantime, since the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, it is possible the issue is caused by certain service, hardware or its driver. Please check if the issue occurs after unplugging all unnecessary devices and then perform the steps below: 1. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. 2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers". 3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties. 4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK. 5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled. Regards, Linda

I will try disable the driver as soon as i got access to the pc today. mean while, i gotta admit that i did disabled some of the services (don't get me wrong because i have done this many times before on xp, vista)- tho for this particular win7 i have only used it for like 2 months. yes, i disabled the services about a month ago (not sure exactly but its long enough). however, since the problem was detected i went back and enabled those services to what it was before - though for some services i try to "start" them but it replies that "this service is depending on other services)" - so even tho it is back "on" now but it may not start properly. but, what i can also do is i will check my laptop win7 pro and compare some of these services status and will reply again. thanks

wooo huuu. got it.at first i though it was the services that i messed before were causing the trouble.however, as i was using safemode i was trying to look for windows defender but coudn't find it but then why is it there in normal mode- so my old memory with VISTA brough me back tothe time about Kaspersky internet security where i think (can't remember) that vista sp1 has some conflict with KIS - ya, that took Microsoft person a long time to figured out too- and in fact Linda Yan, you were the person that look up my case too remember?ok, so back to this one, i went into services and disable the Symantec Antivirus (there are 6 of them) and when into task manager and enprocess all the NAV-related and holy moley it works!!windows now start running normally. a word for anyone who experience the similar problem - uninstall the Antivirus program that you are using as your first attempt to troubleshoot (it may likely be it) i think it has something to do with Windows Defender - as one can only run at a time i guess.tho, please let me know if you have other workaround :)wooo huuu.thank you everyone for helping troubleshooting this stupid little incompatbility.

Even i have the same problem.. My computer restarts every time i open a video file or software or any thing for that matter but works fine in safe mode. I tried disabling the desktop window session manager in system services and the system could stay alive for some time but once i open a video it crashes.. i have tried reinstalling my OS also. But no solution. I don't get any BSOD error messages. There is simply a black screen and the computer reboots..

It has become even worse.. The system reboots even before it logins.. Please somebody help me in fixing it.. I guess the problem is with the motherboard's VGA card. I don't have any graphic card in my system.
