windows 7 network connection times out during downloads
Using Windows 7 Ultimate, I established a series of downloads using Internet Download Manager. The downloads consisted of 20gigs worth of files. I would start the downloads at night and wake up the next morning to see the downloads had stopped. This problem did not exist in Windows XP nor Windows Vista. I have not tried to use Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, but would like to know and understand how to fix this problem. Nothing on my network ever stops working. The router stays up constantly, and so does the cable modem. When the downloads stop, I just reboot the computer and restart the downloads and it goes until it stalls to a halt again. This is very frustrating. It is not a hardware problem. I am running I7-920 on an XFX-58 MB, 12gigs of Corsair RAM, NVidia GTX-275/SLI, etc... The NICs on MB are Realteks. This was not a problem until WIndows 7. I hope there is a solution. Otherwise I must go back to slow Vista.

Did you get the latest drivers from Realtek? Have you disabled the power saving options on the nics? Have you upgraded the routers firmware to the latest version to support Windows 7? What router (specific) and exact model of realteks do you have? What is the current software version of the realteks driver installed? including the router.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. I'm not the original poster but I've got the same problem. Yes, I've tried the latest drivers from Realtek and disabled power saving. I've got a Linksys router (WRT54GL) for which there is no Windows 7 firmware upgrade (nor do I really see why router firmware would be OS specific -- enlighten me?). Realtek chip is an 8111B sitting on an Asus P5B mobo. Router firmware is v4.30.11, Aug. 7, 2007. If you have any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.

I have the latest drivers for the NICs, and the D-Link DIR-825 has the latest firmware, which was out before Windows 7. There has been no new firmwares since. I apologize, for I mis-spoke as to the motherboard. I have an EVGA X58 3X SLI board. One of my other systems has the XFX board. I don't know what brand the NICs are, but they have the latest drivers. The problem still persists. It's definitely a Windows 7 issue. I previously had Vista and this was not a problem. It looks like my NICs are realtek. Thanks for help.

I have given my comments and it posted below, instead of here. I have the latest drivers, and all windows 7 updates. The TCP/IP stack seems to stall, forcing me to reboot the computer to restore any networking connections.

To cdobbs : Everytime I post below you, when I come back into this forum, all my posts end up at the bottom of the page, and you have stopped trying to help me. I don't understand this forum. I have been stalled for a while. I will have to just open up an incident.
