windows 7 network???
I have a desktop running XP sp3 with a laser printer. I just bought a laptop windows 7. I want to network my printer. Both computers belong to the same work-group. The XP machine can share files with the laptop both the laptop cannot see the XP computer. Both computers have the new LLTD protocol. When I click on network on the laptop, it shows itself and the router but not the XP machine. If I go to the control panel for networking and click on the network see full map link, it displays a map that includes the XP machine. There appears to be no way to access the XP machine from the laptop. What do I do?

Read this article to make sure you've correctly configured the LLTP protocol. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-problems-with-computers-not-appearing-on-the-network-mapMCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Hi Ed139, I would like to confirm if you can access the Windows XP machine via the computer name or IP address? For example, if the Windows XP machine name is ComputerA and the IP address is 192.168.1.10, you may type \\ComputerA or \\192.168.1.10 in the Address bar of Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer to check if the Windows XP computer can be accessed. To install a network printer, you also need to install the printer driver for Windows 7. For how to install a network printer, you may refer to the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Install-a-printer In addition, you may also try to add the network printer as a local printer. Add the Network Printer as a Local Printer ========================= 1. Refer to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. 2. Click Add a printer. 3. Choose Add a local printer and click on Create a new port. 4. Select Local Port and click Next. 5. Type in the \\ComputerName\PrinterName for the Port name. Example: If the computer you wish to connect to is named ComputerA and the printer is called PrinterA then the path would be \\ComputerA\PrinterA Whats the result? Arthur Li - MSFT
