windows 7 need a profile trick
Hey Guys I have about 200 users I have to switch from domain profile to a workgroup profile. We have had to do this in the past and using the migration tool but it is to slow. I need an easy way to move the machines off the domain and the user profiles to workgroup profiles. It would be nice if I could somehow do this without having to copy over each profile as some users have lots of data in their profile to move. It would also be nice if this process was easy enough that the end user could do this them self. So any tricks or Ideas are much appreciated.

Hi, The only easier way can achieve a large number of migration is via USMT tool. There is a license limit of 20 "devices" in a workgroup (type winver and run the exe, click on license info, then reference section 3). So that means at least 10 workgroups, is this something you are planning for? I'm not offering a solution of course, just asking what might be a very important question. DAS

No we are in a university environment so we are taking the graduating class off the domain.

We are just trying to keep this process as streamed line as possible so keep any good ideas coming.

Hi, Do you consider to use the solution as I provide? Use the USMT tools and compose a script. Based on my understanding, this is the best way. Thanks. I am using USMT and it works but can I use hardlinking I am just migrating domain user profile to local user profile on the same machine. but I am trying to limit the size of files that need to be copied as some of my users have profiles that are 50GB any Ideas? From what I am reading hardlinking is not to be used for this. Any Ideas? Thanks, Rob

Hi, I assume that this can not be achieved. It can not determine what kind of file should be migrated.
