windows 7 internet connection issue
i've recently installed windows 7, and i can't connect to my lan network at all. i am using a router. i ran the diagnostic test and it tells me that my Ethernet cable is not plugged in or it is broken. that is not true b/c i've tried 3 different cables, and it keeps telling me the same thing. my network drivers are installed. i do have one unknown device which i think it is the chipset if that makes any difference. this is driving me crazy!

You definitely need to resolve the "unknown device" issus as it may prevent a necessary service from starting to get your system connected to your router. If the diagnostic is of the opinion you ethernet is not making connection to the router, then you have a problem. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. ok i can't figure out what the unknown device is. its location is at "intel ich10 LPC interface controller 3a18." what does this mean? also my previous OS (win xp) can connect just fine. i did a full clean install of windows, and i still can't connect to the internet. is this a router issue? UPDATE: i've updated my chipset, but i still have that unknown device.
