windows 7 hangs before login
meep i have a strange problem. not sure if this is the right place to post this so please correct me with scolding replies & suggestions to reach Correctness if i'm in the wrong... OKAY SO here goes... Oh-so-brief description of my system: --Dell Latitude e6400 --Dual boot with ubuntu and 32bit Windows 7 So I've been doing the Ubuntu/Windows dual boot since August and both have been working beautifully up until last week, where Windows now "hangs" before the login screen. Here's what happens: 1. Boot windows w00t 2. see the cute windows 7 startup icon awww 3. get to the light blue screen that comes before login and BAM it hangs. or rather, it does the circle-mouse and flashes screens rapidly between black and the blue screen that should be login. I left this running for some time and got an alert box with the following message: Instruction at 0x713d3c69 referenced memory at 0xffffffff. The memory could not be read. I can mount the file system for the windows partition on my ubuntu partition and files appear to be intact. And ubuntu 10.10 boots fine with no problems or hangs or unusual behavior. Any ideas as to what's causing this? I did recently upgrade my Bios from revision A01 to A26...but I really don't see how that could have caused this... Help! Thanks....

Hi, There a several reasons will cause this issue: 1 Your computer's memory chips may be going bad 2 Some system files or applications during startup were damaged or broken 3 Your PC suffered with spyware or malware I suggest to perform these steps to troubleshoot this issue: 1 Unplug all necessary hardware, re-plug RAM on PC, then Login with Safe Mode to see if the same issue occurs. If you can login with Safe Mode, perform a whole disc scan to see if there were spyware or malware in system 2 System startup repair: 1) Restart PC 2) Press “F8” and select “Repair Your computer” 3 Try system restore in WinRE Hope it helps.
