windows 7 file folder previous versions internal error 0x8007054F can't open/restore
The folder is on a network drive. I can see this folder and all the files in it when I open a previous version. However, if I try to restore the folder I get only an empty folder, no files. If I try to open the file in the previous versions I get an internal error # 0x8007054F. Does this mean the files themselves are gone? The folder is only 10 months old.

What do you mean by "previous version"? Use audit to find the cause. Regards Milos

Thanks for the reply. Previous versions are either copies of files and folders created by Windows Backup or copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. You can use previous versions to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged. Depending on the type of file or folder, you can open, save to a different location, or restore a previous version.

Hi, Do you mean that the backup was saved on a network drive? If so, are you able to open the other files on this network drive? Also, check if the restore is failed. Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup and see the backup files error.log. Regarding the folder is 10 months old, please check if the network user name and password has expired.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Do you mean that the backup was saved on a network drive? --yes, previous restore point data/backup is on the network drive If so, are you able to open the other files on this network drive? --yes. other files on the network drive and even the previous version of the file that is 8 months newer can be accessed. Also, check if the restore is failed. Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup and see the backup files error.log. --didn't have a chance to look at that. Regarding the folder is 10 months old, please check if the network user name and password has expired. --no. the folder permissions are given to users on AD. Don't have a solution for this. My guess is something got corrupt. But anyway, the file has been recreated. Thanks for the efforts.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. If the Windows Backup works fine with the new files, we can conclude that the cause is previous backup file. The files were broken sometime early, so that they cannot be used. At this time, if you do not have any questions, we will mark it as Answered as the previous post. If the issue still persists, please feel free to reply this post directly so we will be notified to follow it up. You can also choose to unmark the answer as you wish.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support
