windows 7 downloads freezes at 99%
I have tried a dozen times to download windows 7 but the download keeps stopping at 99%. I am using a download manager. It gets to 99% and says 2.44g of 2.44g downloaded but it never completes. I've turned off pop-up blockers and even turned off my virus protection but nothing seems to help. I'm ready to give up unless someone here can help.

You say that you're using a download manager - which one? Or do you mean the Microsoft File Transfer Manager (FTM)?
If you do mean FTM, then I found thatsometimes just suspending and resuming the download will free things upbut other times the suspend doesnt seem to work either. In that case, exit the File Transfer Manager, then attempt to download something else (starting a new instance of the FTM). If you want to keep the new download then let it run its course but, if not, you can cancel it (you only needed to download something to access a new instance of FTM) - either way you should be able to resume the stuck download.Mark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

I had a similar problem once. Turned out to be the antivirus I had loaded. Try uninstalling, then download. If that fixes it, re-install antivirus. If it comes back, change AV programs.

The first time I tried to download the file, I got a pop up telling me that it needed to install an active X control. It installed a the download manager from Akamai Technologies. I tried downloading it again from another pc in my home. I also downloaded the same download manager an it also stopped at 99%. Any ideas?

There are many people in these forums who will try to help but you haven't given us much to go on...
Which download manager are you using? And does the problem occur if you don't use a download manager?Mark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

I am using the Download Manager from Akamai Technologies. When I click on the download button on the Microsoft webpage it automatically opens so I am not sure how to download the file without using it.

Did you checked free space?

Could it be that what you're interpreting as a freeze is in fact the integrity-check the DM runs when the download finishes? Me, I had to wait a couple of minutes while it was just merrily checking away, but it eventually reported that it was finished. It's a 2+ Gb-file, after all, and it takes some horse-power to go through...

I did check andI have plenty of free space on my hard drive. As far as the integrity check, after the DM reached 99%, I let it run overnight and it never completed. It continually tries to connect and then goes to "paused" by itself. I clicked on the "resume" button whenever it does that, but it keeps happening over and over. How can I download the file wothout using the download manager or is there a different download manager that I should try?

Check with unlocked if file is locked by some program and unlock it

I'm not familiar with the Akamai download manager, but for the Microsoft File Transfer Manager which is used for some of the download locations, some people have found this advice useful:Resuming stuck downloads in the Microsoft File Transfer Manager(disclosure: note that this is a link to one of my blog posts)- MarkMark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

I was experiencing the same thing. When I closed the download manger and reopened it, it resumed the download and finished ok. The MDM keeps downloads in its que, so that when you reopen, it can resume (for those who didn't know). Good luck with your downloads.

It was quite a long time since I downloaded the beta, but I seem to remember something about integrity-checking. You know, bittorrent-style. How long did you wait for it to finish?
I'm afraid that's as constructive as I can be for now. :-p

If your Windows 7 or anything downloaded using the Microsoft File Transfer Manager freezes at 99% and has like 20-30 MB left to download, here's what you can do to help:
1) Close your current instance of Microsoft File Transfer Manager.
2) Start a new download of some other file using the MFTM.
3) You should now be able to resume your unfinished 99% download.
Hope this helps someone!
