windows 7 backup error 0x80070022
Trying to perform initial backup through windows 7 maintenance using dvd (E:/ drive), after 2 hours and only 43%, stopped, had to eject dvd with paper clip in hole, and got error code 0x80070022. I am using dvd-r 1x-16x 4.7GB, and know it will require more than 1 disc, but am not prompted to insert next disc. Any suggestions?

I have a suggestion but you may not like it. I got the same error with my DVD burner and instead of troubleshooting it, I went to fry's electronic, bought me a Seagate 320GB SATA drive for $54.00 and a USB case for $9 bucks. Went back home, started my backup and I have been using it ever since. I think the error is related to the writing process to the DVD. Use an external USB, it's much faster and less painful. Oh by the way, the error has to do because your DVD is slow when writing from a backup. I am not saying to buy another DVD ROM, I'm suggesting that Windows 7 needs another type a media faster to write and the only thing fast will be another drive. Either a secondary slave drive or an external USB drive. "There's a time and place for that. The time is... Never. You can figure out the place on your own".

Thanks, that was plan b, windows 7 should not have the dvd backup option if it won't work.

Hi, It should work. How does it work if you backup to local drive? If it works properly I suspect that the issue is related to the burner. I suggest you check filter drivers. Step1: Delete filter driver===================== 1. Click "Start", in the Start Search box type "regedit" and press Enter. 2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 3. Right click on "Class", click "Export"; please name the file as "RegBackup" (without quotation marks) and then save it to the C:\ drive as a backup. Note: In case we need to undo the modification, we can double click this RegBackup.reg file to restore the registry key. 4. Highlight this key, on the right pane, check if the "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" values are present. If so, please right click on the values and select "Delete" to remove them. After deleting filter drivers, please reload the drivers. Step2: Reinstall driver===================== 1. Click "Start", in the Start Search box type "devmgmt.msc" and press "Enter". 2. Expand "DVD/CDROM Drives". 3. Right click the listed DVD/CD-ROM, and click "Uninstall". Please uninstall all devices. 4. Restart the computer. The drivers will be loaded automatically. If the issue persists, I suggest you lower the burning speed and try to back up again. Arthur Xie - MSFT
