windows 7 and wireless
I have a compaq nc6000 and my wireless card is an intel 2200bg. the laptop was a hand me down but i'm told when vista was installed the wireless worked. i'm using an asus tomato/mlppp router and it won't connect using the wireless. i don't know if the mlppp is theissue. i've tried changing the encryption of the network but no success. i can connect to other networks, just not this one.

I've seen where the Intel WLAN driver that ships with the Beta code of W7 is sometimes unstable, however if you go to Intel and download the latest WLAN drivers (12.2.0.11 is what I've got) the problem goes away. Give that a shot!Cheers,Justin

The one I've found is here:http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=1637&DwnldID=17233&lang=engSeems like it is x86 and x64 compliant and non OS Specific. Give that one a try and see how you get on.Justin

If you can connect to other networks using the same wireless adapter, then you dont have a driver issue. Is the network you trying to connect protected via WPA PSK? If so, then you will need to know the key. Is the network broadcasting its SSID? If not, then you will have to manually input that information.

Darrien,I had the same problem which was actually driver related. Sometimes the driver can't pin up the connection properly and and constantly drops it and the updated rev fixes this, which is the case with the Intel driver and the newer firmware of some modem/routers.Justin

@dutchie027 If it is an intermittent connection problem, I do agree that a newer revision driver can fix those problems. However, the poster mentioned that they cannot connect to this one particular network when others are working correctly. The OP also confirmed that he was using the latest Intel driver. At least that is how I read and understood it. On my personal wireless, I dont broadcast the SSID and use WPA-PSK. Unless the visitor who wants to connect knows my SSID, he or she wont even see it (yes, I do know there are various utilities that can sniff and find hidden SSIDs). This could be the case here. There is a possibility that the wireless feature of the router is disabled.
