windows 7 activation with Server 2003 KMS host
So everything I have read says you can install KMS host 1.2 on a 2003 SP2 server. This I have done. I have also activated a Server 2008 R2 STD Key with no problems. My count is at 0. Upon running slmgr /dli I see the following Name: Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, W7R2-kms3 edition Description: Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, VOLUME_KMS_R2_B channel Partial Key: xxxx License Status: Licensed. But now when I try to active a Windows7 it never sees the KMS host. I have disabled Proxy from going outside as I have read it will look for the host by default. But upon running slmgr /ato on the client, It comes back with On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x8004fe2f Error: 0x8004fe2f But if I enable proxy it activates and it never sees the KMS host. I have manually set the /skms to <IP>:<Port> it comes back instantly as a succession. I have read so many articles and I cannot believe it is this hard. One thing is, if I enable proxy it activates but now it is a KMS host. What happen to it being a client?

Hello sahajin, Windows 7 VL media ships with a product key already installed, that product key is what is required for it to be a KMS client. It appears the product key was changed to the KMS host key so you need to change it back to the KMS client key for the edition you have installed. So you need to change the key back to the KMS client keys. the keys are listed on the following link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793406.aspx Thanks, Darrell Gorter This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Thank you Darrell, in our infinite wisdom, lol, we had entered a key because we thought it had to have one as with all other windows version, but didn't realize it already had one until we started researching the problem. I had a feeling but now it is confirmed. I finally got the count to increment but not activate because of the 25 needed. Thanks
