windows7 roaming profile update
Hi, I have a situation where windows7 laptop is added to a domain successfully and logged onto it with domain admin account succesfully. when i log off as domain admin the roaming profile updated on the server successfully. when i log in as domain user it is logging in with temporary profile and is not updating the profile on the server. when i make the same user domain admin the raoming profile is workign fine. any ideas please?Thank you in advanceMuttujagan

This sounds like a permission problem on the romaing profiles share on the server. Could you post back what the ACL:s on a user folder are (one that is being logged in with a temporay profile)?

This is pretty common behavior. Windows is very picky about the ACL on the profile folder. It MUST be owned by either the user himself, or the Administratorsgroup of the hosting server, i.e. FILESERVER\Administrators. Ownership of the folder by the Domain Administrator account, orthe Administrator account of the hosting server does not work.Hope this helps.

Muttujagan,I've faced this problem with Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server as well. In 2008 the Profile and Profile.V2 folders will automatically be created when you give the user Writing rights on the Profile share. In 2003 you need to create the folders yourself and give the User full rights. When connecting a Windows 7 machine to a Windows 2008 Server DC you just have to be sure that you's disabled the use of the Internet Protocol IPv6 on your Windows 7/Vista client when using a standard IPv4 DHCP Server. This resolved the Profile problem as you described (I had the exact same problem) by 100%.Hope it will help you as well.Greetz,Martijn
