win 7 start icon
Can someone tell me how to change the START icon in win 7 so that it looks like win xp? It can be done because one of my computers has been changed but I don't know it happened.

wb5mmm - I don't believe you can make it say "START" any longer. Windows 7 removed the old "Classic" start menu and it's elements entirely.

But it is still possible by using third party resource-editing programs. As far as I know, the Start button image is stored in %SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll

I know that it can be done, I just don't know how. One of my computers running Win 7 shows an oblong icon that says START in the middle of it. I don't have any third party software installed. I agree it is amystery.

Now you for sure get junk e-mail to that address, since publishing it publicly on these forums led to that...Whyyou do not try use Snipping Tool in your system and upload the screenshot to an image hosting website, like imageshack.us? Then add the HTML Preview code to the post here, using the edit post source button -

wb5mmm - Indeed... Now you're in for it... As Arseny said - that wasn't quite the smart thing to do... Ah well... You DO know that your Windows Live ID has a FREE 5 GB space allocated to it as part of Skydrive - right? You could post it there with Windows Live Photogallery. It's fairly automatic once you've set it up. From there you can copy the link and paste it here. Or you can as Arseny suggested link to it and "paste" the image in the message.

wb5mmm - Ok... I got the pic.. It's simple.. Right-click anywhere on the desktop that's not covered by an icon. Select Personalize. Note the theme you're system is using - it's the Windows Classic Theme. You can select any other theme - Windows 7, or Architecture, etc... and it will resume it's normal look..
