win 7 on wake-up asks for dsl password
Upgraded from Vista to Win7 - now every time I wake up the computer, it fails to connect to the internet. Wants me to enter my DSL password - then it connects. I check - remember the password - but it asks me every time any way. How to I get the system to remember the password and stop asking for it?

Hi, You may update the BIOS and network card driver first. After that, I suggest you check the following settings for your network. 1. Click Start button, type devmgmt.msc (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. 2. Double click to expand "Network adapters". 3. Right click your network card and click "Properties". 4. Click Power Management, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and Allow this device to wake the computer. 5. Click OK. Another workaround is to setup a router. Good luck! Arthur Li - MSFT

Thanks - I'll give it a try. Never had this problem with Vista - odd. Andy

Hi Arthur, Tried all the ideas - but no success. Have the latest BIOS and drivers. Turned off the power management on the NIC. Still won't connect at boot up. Have to click on the icon - connect broadband connection - and re-enter my password. Even when I click on save user name and password - it does not remember my password. This is new with Win7 - never had this issue with Vista. Other ideas? Thanks, Andy

Hi, You can try to delete and create a new PPPoE connection to check the issue. After that, launch Internet Properties by typing inetcpl.cpl into Search bar in Start menu and press Enter. Switch to Connections tab and set your PPPoE as default and point Always dial my default connection. If it does not work, I also suggest you create a new user account to test the issue. Hi Arthur, Deleting and recreating the connection worked! Somehow in the upgrade it got changed to a dial up connection - and that was causing the problem. Now it's back to normal. Thanks, Andy
