win7 wont connect to router
i just installed win7 on my machine (thankfully as dualboot) and it will not connect to my network our router has DHCP disabled and every pc in the house has its own ip which works fine on vista on the same machine. Win7 seems to have all sorts of issues unidentified network (if it sees it at all) would be the most common error i am getting. i have been goggeling all day and tried numerous ways to get this thing running to no avail, i have noticed that the network device will not remember the default gateway 192.168.1.1 this needs to be entered everytime i start the os no such problem in vista my specs: Name: Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller win7 64bit trying to ping my router gave an interesting result: screenshot of cmd window i tried: uninstalling - reinstalling network drivers installed manufacturer network drivers deactivating ipv6 and a few other things that are commonly recommended but its late and i cant recall. hopefully someone can make sense of the ping.. i think thats probably the most obvious hint to where the problem may be. thanks in advance

No answers I’m afraid, just a few questions: 1. Check your router by trying the internet connectivity evaluation tool here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx 2. Do you have different IP addresses for the two dual-boot operating systems, not that it should make any difference? 3. Have you tried switching off everything, including the router, waiting for a few minutes and switching back on? 4. It’s probably not what you want to do, but have you tried dynamic IP addressing?

thanks for the response. 1. this test fails at the first step, but ill be buggered if i understand what that is supposed to tell me since i am connected.... "Basic Internet Connectivity Test This test is intended to ensure that your computer has basic Internet connectivity, which is needed for the rest of the tests. Your computer already has or had basic Internet connectivity in order to reach this Web page. Therefore, a "Not supported" result in this test could mean that you lost connectivity recently, possibly due to a router or Internet connection that stopped working or that provides connectivity only intermittently. If you ran the test over a wireless network, you might want to try again using a wired connection to eliminate the possibility of wireless interference causing failures. Also, other software or a network device (such as a firewall or proxy) might be preventing the test tool from connecting to the Internet, in which case the test results won't be accurate. --- Not supported. 2. i tried various ip's with the 7 system to no avail< 3. yes , of course .. a router reset was one of the first steps i took (didnt mention it cause .. well, that should be common knowledge :) ) 4. i would love to try dynamic ip address but it's not really about what i want but the landlord.. since i share a house with him and he is a bit paranoid he wants to have total control... *sigh* but again, i dont see where that would make a difference since we successfully connect a winME (dont ask) , an XP and 2 vista machines without any complications... i now tried a reinstal of the OS.. didnt do anything either the router wont respond to pings at all now and everytime i restart the system or the network adapter it throws me into an unknown public network grml.. im starting to think i should have tried the RC before forking out the cash to buy it...

This kind of issues can be caused by software confliction. I suggest you manually add a route to the default gateway and check if it resolves the issue. You need the “route add” command. Please refer the following article. Add a static IP route Arthur Xie - MSFT

OK, i need to correct something, the reason the test didnt work was my firewall. NIS2010 seemed to have problems and didnt start properly with the windows boot. just restarted vista and ran the test again.. the only part that Failed was UPnP and i just checked the router. UPnP is set to enabled... I will try the manual config once i get around to boot into 7 againm though , frankly, i cant really see how that would help..

You may consider disabling NIS firewall and enabling Windows Firewall instead.Arthur Xie - MSFT

the nis problem only came up because it didnt load properly.. that didnt happen before or sincew.. but thats not the issue, since that is in vista and i can connect ifine in vista.. the WIN7 installation is vanilla... nothing installed but drivers... standard windows firewall.. even disabled it to be sure no antivirus, nothing.. 1. installed windows , 2. installed mobo drivers 3. installed manufacturer network drivers to be certain. nothing else installed yet at all no connectivity - unidentified network (public) changed network to home and renamed accordingly - no success double checked the ip , dns host and gateway details enabled DHCP on the router and switched ip 4 properties to auto - no success disabled IPv6 - no success tried the maunal routing as suggested.. no sucess i guess the only thing i havent tried is another motherboard or a pci network card... but the mobo is fine and the network adaptor works fine too - in vista. i guess i will try to return the win7 disc and hope ill get a refund..

Hi, I have found that there are several problems when users using Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Maybe information from the following thread is helpful. Can't access to internet with Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet ControllerArthur Xie - MSFT

hmm, well no joy. but from that thread i gather there are routers that windows 7 is incompatible with. i'd say this is something MS should address post haste
