win7 startup
Message: I recently uninstalled Vista and am now using Windows beta trial version of WIN 7 which I think is a vast improvement over Vista. I am, however, having one slight problem which despite trying to find the solution in the 'start up' menu or 'task bar', I am unable to resolve. Soon after logging on, the screen that appears is 'Computer>Local Disk (C:)>Windows>System 32' . It shows all the folders and files listed under system 32. I then have to manually close this screen in order to access programs off my desktop. How do I prevent this pop up from even appearing after start up. Thanks very much.

Hithis is strange but there are a few places you can look to see what is opening the folder.Easiest is the startup folder. check in this folder to see if any programs are due to start with the machine. also check the startup folder for all users.Alsoopen the run box and type msconfig. when it opens click on the startup tab and there will be listed apps that start with the computer There are tick boxes at the side of them. If the tick is cleared then the app will not start on the next restart. There could be entrys in the run or run once fields in the registry but I dont know how experienced you are with computers to be able to decide which may be causing the app to start. The other thing that could be doing it is a service that is starting. The entrys in the register are in the hklm and hkcu keys under software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run or runonce. If you have just installed windows then the windows then it could be the welcome to windows /getting started screen thats trying to load. The path of the exe will be given in both msconfigand the registry but be carfull of deleting any registry entry (not recommended if you are not experienced). The other thing you could dois put in your windows 7 dvd and do a repair to the installation.malc

iniki - In addition to what Malc suggested - you might also want to run a full and throrough virus scan.

In your registry there are two places you can look forprograms that start automaticallywhen you login.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunTo access the registry open your windows folder and click on "regedit.exe".
