Jennifer, All things change, this is the way of life, As an IT guy myself I really do not see anything about your first post which has much to do with day to day business, all that eye candy is just eye candy, I have not logged a single report of anyone not being able to work because they can not arrange the icons as they like. Now your comment about suggesting you will now "promote os X and linux to my customers and admonish windows products of all types" would be a great disservice to your business customers as MAC and Linux are not now nor will they ever be windows...and over 90 % the world runs on windows. As someone who supports windows / MAC / Linux I can tell you that your headaches have been MINOR compared if you had a 1,000 Linux or MAC on your network. Linux is for server..those attempts at desktop OS are half baked, they have a LONG way to go before they come close to being ready for mass deployment in the business world. Now MAC has not been the OS which got them to where they are now for years, they no longer use top of the line computer parts, they buy from the cheapest vendor they can, the MAC OS is just an older version of FreeBSD, Darwin with a little Apple code tossed in and userland (part of FreeBSD) So before you go handicap your users, maybe you should step back and think about How important are your concerns when compared the cost and time (which is the same in IT)of HOPING to get business programs working under MAC / Linux. I see this each year when school starts, students who got MAC's are left hanging and they are out getting a second system just so they can keep up. MAC's are designed and built by "Idea" people (hence all the issues they have had of late), LINUX is designed and built by "Geeks" for geeks, where as windows is designed and built by US the end users via feedback and the simple fact WE purchase it at a rate of 9 to 1 over MAC or Linux. Now what you should be doing is offering suggestions of windows 8, as the time to suggest features for win 7 has passed. P.S. more of us would read your post if you would press enter after you finnish a thought, it makes it hard to read when you do not.

You really should do like what Bubbepcguy said and get involved when Windows 8 comes out in beta. If you are indeed an IT pro, you will have this opportunity. I'm not a Microsoft IT pro (even though I'm professionally employed in IT) and I got involved in the Windows 7 beta program through our Microsoft sales rep's recommendation and low and behold - one of my ideas actually came to fruition so all those commercials that Microsoft was showing during the last winter Olympics weren't just a lot of hot air. Microsoft sept c'est moi :-)

i agree mac computers are not what they were but osX can be installed on other pc's and systems.as for programs there are lots of programs out there that do the things ms programs do.now i know ms holds the lions share of the software buisness and most novice to advanced power users use ms products and im not trying to bash ms here.now as for icon arangment the only concern come of my people have is the lack of being able to see the toolbar icons clearly(wanting to be able to enlarge them for better vision) not all of my people have 20/20 minor problem..i agree.aranging folders is a big issue.search is a major issue.window size and placement is on the top of the list....i watched as one customer (who works multiple client's web sites updates and entertainment add's) fall terrably behind because every time he had to open multiple windows at a time he was spending 1/4 of his time resizing said windows just to do his job.now im sorry but i belive as do most of my people that when toy open a folder it should be as it was when closed.especialy when you work with multiple files in a single folder for many diffrent customers. and now i suppose i have to tell my people dont sweat it maybe they will address these issues in windows 8 in like 3-5 years... MAYBE...just be patient.things will work out.or do i try to find solutions to the problems the face now. i agree linus is geek for geek programing and not something i would suggest to a novice nor would i even think of suggesting instalation of os X on a novices computer.but my people are not novices.they know there way around a conputer and how to use them ...they call me in for the things they cant do..and for the time consuming aspects of setup.as do yours i suspect. and i will appoligise to you also.i went to suport microsoft.com and was directed here.
