wifi connection drops and other Win8 wifi issue

Hi all

I have a mobile wifi hotspot and it's the only wifi connection I use. On my old Win7 system I used to keep it hidden and manually connect every time. On the new Win8 laptop it keeps holding onto previous connections eg wifiname 2, 3, 4 etc. Can I get rid of these as the connection seems to drop occasionally with the new laptop and it didn't on the Win7 one. I'm thinking maybe this is the reason why - too many versions of the same connection competing with each other. I could be wrong about this as I know there are other people with the new os and similar problems on the message boards. I've had this laptop two weeks and had 3 dropped connections so far. Is my theory right or is there something else I can do? I never installed anything for my wifi, just let Windows find it and connected that way.

Any help is really appreciated.

Hi,

There are many prossible reasons that can cause WIFI dropped, such as driver problem, WIFI signal problem and so on.

For your problem, Firstly, I would like to suggest you reinstall WIFI driver for test to fix this problem.

Secondly, try to use command below to show and delete WIFI profile, after that try to reconnect to your hotspot for test.

Show all wireless profiles on the PC: netsh wlan show profiles

Delete a profile: netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName"

To know more command to manage WIFI connection in Window 8, please refer to the link below:
