There are several things that could cause this. The first items to eliminate are:wireless encryption enabled and the wrong key was entered MAC filter enabled at the wireless router/Access point Please verify the wireless security settings at the router/access point. If those appear fine then we can look at other items. To aide in that can you run ipconfig/all in a command window and post the output back here? This will show some of your basic network settings and let us see if you are at least getting a valid IP address.Just curious. Who setup your wireless router, you or someone else? -z1p

HiDHCP says Off, do you have a static IP on the Wireless card.If you do it probably does not match the Friends Network.Otherwise, Help to alleviate the "guessing game" factor in providing help, and give relevant details concerning your computer's networking aspects. HiConnection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-6F-25-D3-40 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Since this is not enable it can not obtain a valid IP from the friends Wireless Router. IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 This the the Wireless card's IP number. Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::216:6fff:fe25:d340%5 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : There is No Gateway IP so it is not looking to connect to the Wireless Router. DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1-------------------------------------First thing check if the Intel original Wireless utility is running, if it is running, you should close it and take it out of the Startup folder so that it will not start any more.Reboot.If it does not behave, then it means that your Wireless card has a static IP that matches your home Network and it can Not adapt to other Network.Look at this page, http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/11/26/windows-7-static-ip/Follow the path as describe up to step 5 (Do not pat attention to the specific number your would be different)Step 5 shows a static IP. If your data looks similar in nature, write down the specific numbers that are entered in your computer (just in case you need to reverse it). Then click on the two Auto Obtain entries, and all the numbers will be gone. When set to Auto Obtain it would obtain the IP data from most open Wireless Routers.Write down what you do in case you need to reverse it when you go home. Hi guys, I got a new Dell Vostro laptop. The network adapter provided is Dell wireless 1510 LAN minicard . The problem I faced is trying to connect to the wireless network. The network key is definitely correctly entered, but the laptop will display the message 'Acquiring Network Address' for hours and not getting into it. So what I did was:1. I keyed in the IP address/Subnet Mask/ Default gateway in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties (I obtained this data from another laptop connected to the wireless network using Intel(R) Proset Wireless. I did change the last digit of the IP address so that it wouldn't crash). 2. I manage to connect the Dell Vostro Laptop finally but only for 5-6 seconds and it gets disconnected automatically. Everytime I click on the wireless network to connect to it, it will connect again only for 5-6 seconds and get disconnected again. Why is this happening?? What can I do? Please help!

Maybe this will help: It seems you are describing the same symptoms as I just had. (I spent 6 hours reinstalling Windows only to be re-confronted with the same problem. Each time I logged on, I noticed the key did not have enough dots in the key area. I changed the key and logged on; same thing. For some reason Winduhs had reset the key to an improper value. It seems the only way to reset the key to the correct value is Wireless Network Setup in the Control Panel. Hope this helps.~/Lee
