That mail could have been a fake mail using malicious code to crash your Internet Explorer and spread out malware over your PC. (I got lots of them recently.) Besides reinstalling the entire PC in this case you can try the following things (without warranty of succeeding): Perform a system restore. Delete all Temporary Internet Files. Update your virus and malware scanners and perform a full scan. Check the event log for detailed error messages. Best greetings from Germany Olaf

This should be caused by malicious code as Olaf mentioned or your contact who has the virus/worm and they who needs to remove it in most cases. If there is any security software installed, please perform a full scan of the system to see if there is any file infection. If the security software is not installed, you can download and install Microsoft Security Essentials which is free of charge to perform the scan. To avoid this kind of issue reoccurs, please do not click on the unknown links provided by others. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Perform a virus and a spyware scan then repair your computer operating system and re-install Internet Explorer. This should solve your problems and secure your environment.
