why do windows 7 systems send to port 137 of the gateway router?
does anyone know why windows 7 workstations send requests directly to port 137 (netbios) of the gateway router? my router rejects them but I am wonder what they are for in the first place. Should the router be doing something with them? Just seems odd to me. Thanks, Jon (btw the source port is also 137 if that matters.)

Hi, Port 137 is legitimately used by Windows machines for File and Printer sharing, which is turned on as default, even if you aren't using it. Sometimes, other applications will also use this port for connection. Niki Han TechNet Community Support
