vpn issues working on vista 32 NOT working on vista 64
HI All,I am looking since a few days into getting a vpn connection to work between my ultimate vista 64 and our Work Vpnwe use activcard keys to get a certificate and to loginon my vista 32 laptop from work i just put the key in and click on the vpn proggie .. i start the proggie it asks me for my activkey pin, connects and checks the certificate and does a login and i am ini installed the same activclient software on my 64 .. it installs fine... it recognizes the key..... i can verify the certifificate against one of our external servers and the diagnostic software from the activclient doesn't report any errorssecond thing i try to install is the vpn proggie but that fails to render the shortcut on my desktop and i get an error "this profile is not meant for this architecture, contact your admin ........"so this doesn't work and i don't have a clue why?i think never mind i will connect manually using the connect to wizard so i setup the vpn connection in the network and sharing screen.. ticked the use the smart card thingie in the setup wizard and choose "connect later" than when i try to connect to the vpn i get a micorsecond the accessing smart card little screen and than i get the screen please insert smart card with following error "the card is being shared by anotherprocess. however the card is not the one being requested and cannot be used for current operation" it doesn't ask me for my activkey pin or nothing and i need to push the cancel key to end the connection weird is that the green light on the activ key doesn't even start to blink (which it does on the vista 32) and when i check the certificate against our external serverso how to get vista 64 accept the inserted activ card ?? activclient version is 6.01.00047 what i find "suspicious" is that the activclient reports to be a x86 version so i wondered maybe there is a 64 bit version of the activclietn but i can't get that confirmed on the actividentity 's website screenshots at http://www.ukrabel.com/vpnscreenshot.jpg http://www.ukrabel.com/activclient1.jpgi read here somewhere that 64 bit requires different certificates ?can i upgrade my 32 bit certificates to 64 bit ? if possible can somebody give me a how to version ?I asked our companies IT department for help but the official answer is that they don't see the need to develop a 64 bit version of the vpn proggie as of yet... runing far behind on 64 bit as every other company i guess....so i am left to experiment and find my own way in greetingsPeter

Hi, Firstly, certificate is platform independent. Thus, the certificate should work on both 32bit and 64bit platform. However, for the certificate to work on a different operating system, we also need to ensure that the necessary components have been successfully installed (such as card reader driver, CSP, related software, and so on). The error message indicates that the system cannot recognize the smart card. As we have not information about this device, I cannot perform a test to verify whether it is the expected behavior. However, I strongly suggest that you contact the manufacturer to confirm the following information to troubleshot the issue: 1. Is there any driver/CSP/software update needed to be installed on the Windows Vista 64bit system in order to recognize the smartcard? 2. Is there any guide for using the device with Windows Vista 64bit system?
