voice recognition with audio playback AND turning off monitor
Hello, I recently found out about the great speech recognition system, but I encoutered a problem.. When I start a movie or an audio file, the comupter takes commands from the audio. i.e I watched a movie where the world "pause" was said, and it paused the movie.( I have to admit it was kinda amusing ) I was wondering if there's a way to disable the listening while an audio is being played on the computer, Or configure the system to recognize my voice only. Another unrelated question I have is how can I turn off my monitor with keys combination, or a command from the start menu ? Thanks for your time !

I haven't seen you specify a specific problem. You just create a speech profile (which you can copy and take to other computers). Read more here http://windows7news.com/2009/09/18/how-to-use-speech-recognition-with-windows-7/ and here's a PC World article on it too http://www.pcworld.com/article/16276/how_it_works_speech_recognition.html?tk=rel_news and here's Microsoft's how to here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Set-up-Speech-Recognition.As for keyboard commands for turning off the monitor, I've only seen some apps that will let you program a shortcut to do what you're wanting to do. But I gotta ask, why waste time typing and searching for something when a finger will turn off the monitor? ;-) There's already software that will turn the monitor off at whatever time interval you want so I really don't see the need to download and install something I wouldn't trust.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Thanks for your comment cdobbs, The specific problem is that when I watch a movie, the actors are giving commands to my computer. The only use I have for this is to start a movie or a show w/o having to get out of bed. So, I want the listener to be stopped as long as the movie is played. (or any audio coming out of my speakers) And about the monitor, I want to be able to turn the screen of by voice command (again w/o getting out of bed).

You need to manually disable listing when playing audios. Regarding the question of turning off the monitor, it is a kernel power behavior and we cannot realize it via Speech Recognition. You may use command lines to change the timeout of turning off the monitor. Please refer the follow article. How to use Powercfg.exe in Windows Server 2003 You may use "powercfg /change /monitor-timeout-ac [minutes]" to change the time when you want to turn off the monitor in a short time.Arthur Xie - MSFT
