vista ultimate does not update roaming profile
hi, our vista ultimate workstation does not update the roaming profiles on the server - it may use them while logging in (i didn't check that, however the gpo-set folder redirectionsare carried out like expected), but it does not upload any data to the \\server\profiles\%username%.v2 directory when logging off.... no ntuser.dat, no policies, nothing :-/ network layout is 4 vista business 1 vista ultimate 1 server 2003 r2 64-bit 1 server 2008 32-bit i cross-checked everything from local eventlog (no errors) to gpo settings - i do not find a reason for this? even logging in with admin-priviliges does not help... thx in advance :-)

Hi, I found that you set the direction of the roaming profile as \\server\profiles\%username%.v2. We create folder %username%.v2 in order to save the profile for Windows Vista systems into this folder. However, please note that we should not set the path of the user object in Active Directory Users and Computers like this, that may cause conflictions. We directly set the path as \\server\profiles\%username% in Active Directory Users and Computers, and by default Windows Vista profiles would be uploaded to \\server\profiles\%username%.v2. This behavior is by design. Please check and adjust the settings in Active Directory Users and Computers. If the issue is not resolve, please check the sharing settings of the folder \\server\profiles\%username%.v2. Also try to manually copy files onto the folder from another workstation. If the issue occurs when all of the sharing settings are correct, please check disc quota for each users. 1. Make note of the size of the roaming user profile.2. Check to see if there is a disk quota on the server that stores the roaming user profile.3. Check to see if you have applied a Group Policy setting to limit roaming user profile size. The Group Policy setting that can limit the roaming user profile size is AdministrativeTemplates\UserSettings\System\LogonLogoff\Limit Profile Size If the issue is persists, please also check you folder redirection settings. Please note that do not redirect the contents of the roaming profile to the folder that stores roaming profiles. In our case, do not redirect to \\server\profiles\ Hope the above suggestion help.

hi, thanks for your suggestions! I have been unclear in my post, i'm sorry: of course the profiles are set to \\server\profiles\%username% --> sovista profile data gets stored in ....\%username%.v2 folder the folder redirections are set to ....\%username%\<foldername>, thus having two different locations as you suggested. there are no limits configured. the problem still persists... all users can log on to the vista business machines with roaming profile, and of course all users can log on to the 'ultimate' machine, but their profiles will not be updated then. i could post a 'resultant set of gpo' (if this is the right english term *g*) if needed - but i'm afraid this would be in german ^^ jens

Hi Jens, Sorry for delay. I understand that the roaming profile path setting is correct. I suggest that you change the direction of the folder redirection. We cannot redirect contents to the folder to any folder under \\server\profiles\%username%. Please redirect to \\server\profiles\<folder name> or other locations. If the issue persists, I suggest that you change the server name to server IP address. The path would be \\[serverIP]\profiles\%username%. Does the profiles uploaded? Have you enabled disk quota for each users? If so, make sure that each users has enough space. Also, check group policy settings AdministrativeTemplates\UserSettings\System\LogonLogoff\Limit Profile Size to see if the roaming profile size limitation is proper. If the above steps are already tried, access the following article and check if there is any task we need to do. The bug is now found: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=79404 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897101 (This KB refers to Win2000/XP, but also is valid for Vista - someone should update this)On systems with nVidia Display Drivers installed, the 'nVidia display driver' service blocks certain registry entries - thus windows does not upload the local profile to the server.Disabling this service does the trick :-)The services itself is only needed for multi-monitor scenarios. When using 1+n monitors, one has to enable the service again and set the registry settings on every logon, i.e. by logon-script.GreetsJens-- this can be really annoying, because with server 2008+vista sp1+nvidia display driver, there are no error messages in the event logs -- Life's not rebootable
