vista rdp won't connect off LAN not autotuning
There was a previous thread that closed on this subject, but was never resolved... I am trying to use vista ultimate to rdp to another vista ultimate box; neither has onecare. Works perfectly within LAN, but won't work across WAN. Instead, stalls with "cannot connect to remote computer". Have tried the following: 1) Disabled tcp autotuning, disabled tcp receive side scaling (on client and server simultaneously, rebooted) 2) Turned off firewalls (both client and server) 3) rdp on server set to "allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop" 4) rdp on client set to "always connect, even if authentication fails" and "do not use ts gateway" 5) I am using IP address within rdp client. If I run a VPN client, I can rdp to the target box (now, of course, it's not really across a WAN anymore). Also, without VPN, I can rdp across WAN to a different box running xp sp2 that is on same LAN as target box running vista ultimate. In fact, I can set up a "serial" rdp session across WAN by going from vista client (across WAN) to xp sp2 box and then to (within LAN) target vista box but this is a clumsy workaround. Besides the previous thread on this forum that was never really resolved (PostID=1727087) I have seen several other threads from several months ago in which disabling autotuning was the answer (but that's not the case for me). Any/all advice greatly appreciated.
