viewing user files on a partitioned hard drive
I have a HP computer with XP. The hard drive was partitioned into two by the manufacturer with system files on one partition and user files on the other. Since the system was running very slow, I changed the motherboard, processor and the hard drive and then loaded Windows 7 64bit OEM. However, I forgot to copy my user files from my old hard drive onto my backup external drive before I changed all this hardware. Once I realized that, I tried to connect the old hard drive to the now new computer using a USB adapter, Windows 7 recognizes only one partition with the program files. The partion with the user files is not visible. I changed the system to read the hidden files but still does not work. Any one knows how to make this work.

Hi epdoc, Is the partition displayed in Disk Management? 1. Click Start, type diskmgmt.msc in to the Search box and then press Enter. 2. Please check if the drive appears here. If so, please assign a drive letter to this drive. To do so: a. Right-click the drive, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths b. Click Add. c. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, and then either accept the default drive letter or click the drive letter that you want to use. d. Click OK. 3. Please restart the computer and check the issue. Hope this helps.
