viewing printers remotely windows 7
hi i wondered if somebody can help with an issue we have. we are trying to view/create printers on client machines that are on windows 7 machines. we can do this ok with windows XP. and we have found a fix for the windows 7 machines which is to edit a group policy: Group policy - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Printers - Allow print spooler to accept client connections We are just wondering why this has been disabled, and if we enable it would there be any ramifications for other client machines. We would like to know before we start enabling machines with this policy. thanks for eveybodys help :)

Hi, Please understand that the Group Policy item Allow print spooler to accept client connections is set to Unconfigured not Disabled. When the policy is unconfigured, the spooler will not accept client connections until a user shares out a local printer or opens the print queue on a printer connection, at which point spooler will begin accepting client connections automatically.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

so enabling doesnt have any other ramifications other than accepting client connections to the printers. so is this setting already configured on windows XP Machines, we just wondered why microsoft had changed the setting to not configured
