viewing image files saved in vista on an xp os
I have a problem with a folder created in Vista which cannot be viewed in XP. A friend of mine's HDD has crashed and asked me to recover a folder for him which contains3.5gb of photo's, I used my ontrak data recovery software to access the HDD and copy the folder to an external HDD which went fine enough, but when I open the folder in XP I cannot see any files, although if I check the properties of the folder it gives me the size of 3.5gb and contains 1445 files. I believe this to be related to user specific security settings in Vista which will only allow that user to view, but I am at a loss. If anyone has any ideas how I can get around this, it would be most appreciated Steve

Try logging in as Administrator and taking ownership of the folder and all files, then add the everyone group to the folder with FULL CONTROL rights. This should allow anyone to see and manipulate the files long enough for you to dump them back onto his new drive or allow him to copy them back himself on his system.

Confirm whether your friend encrypted the folder in Vista OS; if so, create an account with the same user name and password in Windows XP and try opening the folder. Make sure that you selected the Show hidden files and folders in the Folder options on the XP computer. Contact ontrak data recovery software for the further help.
