This is 3rd party software and probably designed to be run from another version of Windows. What is the specific make, model and model # of your laptop? What is the specific version of this Franklin USB Dictionary? Ok, I think I found what you have and boy are you going to be disappointed http://www.amazon.com/Franklin-MWD-170-Merriam-Webster-Dictionary-Thesaurus/dp/B000GL2X26Seems everybody is complaining about this thing and lo and behold, they are reviews saying what you're saying. There should be contact info for Franklin - call their technical support as this isn't a windows 7 problem.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi,When did this issue first occur? What is the exact error? Is the USB new? Will it run on other PC? If not, Frankli USB is to blame. You may need to log into the computer using an account with these privileges or use another computer without the restrictionIn case any software conflict is the culprit, I suggest boot into Clean Boot and test again.=============This method will disable loading program or service from start up to avoid conflict 1. Click "Start",and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment.

Addtionally, I would like to suggest you checking the following locations:1. Go to Device Manager or Disk Management to check if USB dictionary is detected. If it is the case, try to update the driver.2. Check if any Group Policy setting is configured to disable Autoplay. 1) Click the Start button and type: GPedit.msc in the Search box.2) Expand Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\AutoPlay Policies, check if any setting is configured. BTW, you can plug this device on other computers running Windows 7 or previous Windows to identify if the issue is due to Windows 7.Best RegardsDale
