uptime.exe
In XP I was able to use the uptime.exe and run it against a remote machine by using the command UPTIME <computer name> . When I try to run this command and the <computer name> is a Windows 7 machine, the utility crashes. The only other thing I know is that logged in locally, on a Windows 7 machine, the command UPTIME works just fine.

Hi, First, I would like to confirm that if you are remote the Windows 7 machine on the XP and run this command failed. If not, please let me know the detailed symptom. Also, please check if you are running as the administrator. You may temporarily disable the third party security programs to test this issue. Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Win7 local - UPTIME works WinXP local - UPTIME works Win7 to WinXP - UPTIME works Win7 to Win7 - UPTIME fails WinXP to Win7 - UPTIME fails On Win7 machine, Run as Administrator option is used to start command prompt One other note: If logged on to Win7 machine with domain account and logged on to WinXP with same domain account - UPTIME from WinXP to Win7 works. Maybe something to do with permissions?

I have not seen uptime on Windows 7 but I have it on my VM copy of XP, guess it was retired. Hi, Base on the current situation, as this tool is developed for Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 4, it may be some compatibility issue with Windows 7. I am running uptime.exe under the domain admin context. What level of permission do I need to make this work?

I am currently running into this situation. Uptime will run against about 50% of my servers and crashes on the other half. I can run just the straight uptime command successfully but as soon as I add the /d or /p switches, it will crash. I get the same results whether running this remotely or locally and am running it with a Domain Admin account. All servers are Windows 2008 Std some are R2 but this does not seem to be relevant to whether the utility runs or not as some it is successful on and others, not.

Hi, I think the account should have the right permissions to query WMI from a remote host. You may use a domain account and place that account into the local administrators group on the remote servers. Also, as this tool is developed for Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 4, it may be some compatibility issue with Windows 7. Hi, Yes, I think it should be the permission issue. It seems that the account need to be both administrator right in the local and remote machine to run it.
