update problem
I turned on my computer and as it was booting it started to do updates, after the updates were done it restarted and then I was able to get into my programs. After about 5 minutes a window pops up and says that updates have been installed, would I like to restart, so I closed out of the programs I was in and restarted. It started to reboot and said no boot device, so I put in the windows 7 disc and tried a repair. Now all I get is a invalid partion table.

Most boot issues can be resolved using bootrec.exe from the installation DVD.Here's the link that describes the process:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392Although you may be able to get the installation disc's recovery process to work some magic by running it again, if not, use the process involved in the link above and issue these two commands: /FixMbrThe /FixMbr option writes a Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This option does not overwrite the existing partition table. Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove non-standard code from the MBR. /FixBootThe /FixBoot option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that is compatible with Windows Vista. Use this option if one of the following conditions is true: The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows Vista boot sector. The boot sector is damaged. An earlier Windows operating system has been installed after Windows Vista was installed. In this scenario, the computer starts by using Windows NT Loader (NTLDR) instead of Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

Dear Mr Capp, I tried the MBR, FIXMBR, and a couple of other things but I still get the "Invalid Partition Table" If you got any more suggestions I can use them. I might just reinstall, It might be easier.

A clean install would most likely solve the problem, as long as you install to a primary partition and things aren't very esoteric.Currently how is yourpartition scheme structured, i.e., any non-default partitions and/or a third-party boot managers involved?Futhermore, you could try Startup Repair again and see if they take or download these utilities:http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads/MBRWORK.ZIPhttp://www.diskinternals.com/download/Boot_CD.exe

I had the same problem. Right after windows update.I didn't know if it was caused by the 'test' updates, or by the updates to ms office that received updates at the same time.Anyway, lost everything and just did a clean install. Nothing lost that was critical; this is a beta and I'm not using it as my main OS. In fact, I'm trying to be objective and keeping it as Microsoft as possible, except for the little things you must have like adobe reader. All I'll say is that I ws disappointed about the crash, but life goes on.............Dan
