unidentified network with ics
HI, Here is my setup: 2 machines = 1 with win7 (64bit) and the other with WinXP pc 1 is connected to the internet (via modem) and has two ethernet cards (both working properly). pc 2 is connected to the crossover cable which connects into the 2nd ethernet card on pc 1. Both machines can surf the internet, both machines can "see" each other & we can share files between each other. Both machines are in the same workgroup. everything works fine. The only little annoying thing is that the win7 machine says "unidentified network - access type=no internet access" for the 2nd PC YET the internet is working and everything is working properly. Can somebody please help me get rid of/fix this "Unidentified Network" annoyance because as I mentioned, everything is working. please let me know. thanks

Hi, I would like to suggest you check and disable Bonjour DNS Responder service, if it is available for you. If it does not work, please also try to test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot. What are the results in both modes? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Check in your services list: "##Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 ##" If you do, stop disable it,It is actually the Bonjour DNS Responder Service The Unidentified Network disappeared after stopping this service and a quick disable/enable of the NIC, restoring Internet access. If it didnt work try to open an elevated command prompt and type netsh winsock reset catalog and press Enter. Restart your computer. Good Luck, Abeer

Hi, If it does not work, you may need to perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the system. In-place Upgrade ============ 1. Start the computer. 2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate: a. If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now. b. If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps: b1. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK. Note Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. b2. Click Install now. 4. When you reach the Which type of installation to you want? screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows 7. Does it work? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

It's a fresh install. No need for "upgrade". Question: Before I do ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 is there any way of verifying that there is that route?

Hi, I would like to explain that In-Place upgrade is not a real upgrade. It scans the system and repairs the corrupted system files and registries. You may repair the system by performing the In-Place upgrade. Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

This is a brand new fresh install. There is no need to doa "in place upgrade". More solutions please!! NOthing is working!!
