unable to print from a Win7 RC pc home networked to a Vista ulitmate pc's printer
On a home network I can see the computer I want to print to using a pc with Win7RC (fresh install). However when I click on the pc that has a printer attached (a pc with VISTA) I am prompted for a password which I have no clue in getting. Had no problem doing this from a pc with XP Pro. Could see the printer attached to the vista pc (was allready in share mode) and after automatica config was able to print. Any help appreciated. Can't understand why setting up to print from a networked printer could be so difficult.ITT manager Home LAN administrator

Try this:Select Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Homegroup. Look at the menu items below ...OtherHomegroup OptionsIf you select "Change the password" the current password will appear. If you select "Change advanced sharing settings" try turning on file and printer sharing and turning off password protected sharing.Homegroup is a set of new security features in Win 7. Probably works nicely when all the computers are running Win 7, but when you have a mix of XP and Vista and Win 7 computers the Win 7 settings need some tweaking.

Thanks but it did not work. It only worked when I gave win7 what it asked for when a window came up and asked fro a password. Once I gave the password it was able to see and connect to the printer. Printed successfully.VytautasBITT manager Home LAN administrator

Does file sharing work properly? Have you created same username/password on both computers? After you type password, please check the box "Remember password". The next time it may not prompt. If the behavior persists, I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall.Arthur Xie - MSFT
