unable to install update Update for Windows 7 (KB971033 & KB979306)
Hi there my windows automatic update fails to install this update and gives me a error code 8000FFFF. i have also tried downloading manually and same results. __________________ already tried following things but no luck. Go into the C:\Windows folder, locate the "software distribution" folder, delete it, reboot, then try the update again, there may be a damaged file in there, deleting the folder clears them, and windows recreates the folder again. __________________ running the Reset windows Updates from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/971058

You may check if the updates were installed before. If so, remove it and then reinstall. Remove an update If it does not help, please temporary disable antivirus and firewall, then install the updates again. If the issue persists, please try the following method. 1. Launch REGEDIT 2. Locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS 3. Check if these three values exist under the COMPONENTS key: PendingXmldentifier NextQueueEntryIndex AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving If the keys exist, back up the Components key, then delete the three above values. 4. Restart. Arthur Xie - MSFT I cant find componenets under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , i am using a msdn version of windows 7 ultimate. its activated too.

Hi, Please right-click on the branch COMPONENTS and choose Export. Save it to Desktop as a backup. Then delete the three keys and see if the issue can be resolved. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Dear Autheur Xie, i also facing same problem that MSD _23 face, and i try the way you suggest, i also didn't see the 3 COMPONENTs that specify. Since the KB979306 cannot be installed, my notebook will auto restart or hang after 3-4 minutes.
